1.What cookies are
- A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage and tracking pixels. In this policy "cookies" covers all of them.
- Cookies let a site remember your choices, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is used.
- A first party cookie is set by the site you are visiting. A third party cookie is set by another company whose code runs on that page.
2.Our approach
- We ask before we set anything that is not strictly necessary. Nothing in the analytics or marketing categories loads until you choose.
- Declining is as easy as accepting. The banner offers Accept all, Decline all, and Customise, side by side.
- We do not use pre-ticked boxes. Analytics and marketing start switched off.
- We record your choice so we can prove consent was given, and so we do not ask again on every page.
- You can change your mind at any time through the Cookie preferences link in the footer of every page.
3.The categories we use
- Strictly necessary. Required for the site to work. These cannot be switched off, because without them the site cannot deliver pages, keep a session, or remember that you declined the others. We do not ask consent for these, and POPIA does not require it.
- Analytics. Helps us see which pages are useful and where people get stuck. Off until you allow it. Declining does not change how the site works for you.
- Marketing. Lets us measure whether a campaign worked. Off until you allow it. Declining does not change how the site works for you.
4.The cookies and storage we set
Every item in use on autohive.co.za, its purpose and how long it lasts. This table matches the live site, audited 28 July 2026. This website sets no cookies at all; the items below use browser local and session storage, which this policy covers under clause 1.1.

No advertising pixels run on this site. If Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight or Google Ads tags are ever added, this table is updated in the same commit that adds them. A tag that fires without appearing here is processing without valid consent, and we treat it as an incident.
5.Third party services on our pages
- Google Fonts. Our pages load typefaces from Google. This shares your IP address with Google when the font is fetched. Google does not set cookies through this service. We plan to self-host these fonts to remove the third party entirely. [CONFIRM self-hosting]
- WhatsApp. Clicking a WhatsApp link takes you to Meta, whose own privacy terms then apply.
- Embedded video or maps, where used, set cookies belonging to the provider. We load these only after consent.
6.How to change your choice
- Click Cookie preferences in the footer of any AutoHive page. Your current choice is shown, and you can change it.
- Withdrawing consent stops further collection and clears the marketing items above from your browser. It does not undo collection that already happened lawfully.
- You can also clear site data in your browser, which resets your choice and makes the banner appear again.
7.Browser controls
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and site storage in its settings, usually under Privacy or Security. Blocking strictly necessary storage will stop parts of the site working, including remembering your consent choice and, once it launches, signing in to the Client Portal.
8.Do Not Track
There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to a Do Not Track browser signal, so we do not respond to it. Use the cookie banner instead. It is explicit and we act on it.
9.Changes to this policy
- When we add or remove a cookie or storage item, we update this policy in the same change that alters the site.
- Where a change materially widens what we collect, we ask for consent again rather than relying on the old choice.
